Los Rapidos is a fresh waterway approximately 35 miles long that connects the southern and northern parts of the Bacalar Lagoon.  It appear’s as a pale, aquamarine gem in some places, and a deep indigo blue in others.

Living stromatolite colonies, appear similar to coral, but are extremely rare and exist in just a few places in the world.  The ones in the lagoon area are a relatively new to the landscape, dating back to the Holocene era, which began about 12,000 years ago.

You may explore the area with kayaks, snorkel, float, swim, take photos, bird watch, lie in one of the hammocks, hang out on the dock, have a great, freshly made lunch while enjoying the phonomenal water front views.

Keep your eyes wide open to all of the rare and incredible nature of this area, seen by few vacationers.  (Rapidos is a local secret!)
